The Marquette University Team Camp for those high schools that have a summer June ball program. It can feature up to 18 different teams each day of Saturday and Sunday. Some teams choose to play both days which end up being Wisconsin-heavy teams or teams can choose to play just a singular day and that is where we will get some teams for the suburbs of Chicago. Besides seeing all of those teams under one roof, the fans get to see matchups we wouldn’t see during a regular season of high school ball. This camp is also a signal that summer is indeed upon us, being that it is typically early June when going off and then it is also the first of Wisconsin’s four D1 schools to host a summer program.
What we saw on Sunday was a special day of competition. We saw Nicolet play and their always solid play that has taken them to Madison a few years in a row. We got to see Andrew Jensen Andrew Jensen 6'9" | C Kaukauna | 2026 State WI and his Kaukauna high school team take on West Allis Central and Yusef Gray. How about the special treat of Vaughn Karvala Vaughn Karvala 6'5" | SF Oregon | 2026 State WI ‘s Oregon club against Dooney Johnson Dooney Johnson 6'5" | SG Milwaukee Juneau | 2027 State WI and Milwaukee Juneau. These were just some of the special talent and matchups that were on display.
Enjoy the notes below.
(Special thanks to the Marquette University Men’s basketball program for the access)

Sunday’s play was the best I have seen this prospect play. He was in a head-to-head matchup with one of the state’s top 2027 prospects, Dooney Johnson Dooney Johnson 6'5" | SG Milwaukee Juneau | 2027 State WI and that brought out something special. He was aggressive going to the hole and put a stamp on that with a bassline drive that ended in a two-handed back scratcher. Later in the game he had an incredible straight down the lane slam that was spectacular and brought those watching out of their seats. In a following sequence, from the left wing a perfect, sweet, formed, jumper from distance that was good going through the net. The day was capped off with the prospect receiving an official offer from the university after all the game play had ended and most had gone home.

WOW! This top prospects and Wisconsin lone freshman All-State performer had himself one when his club needed it. We were blessed to see a series of plays that were crucial to his club on three straight trips down the court. Two very deep threes started the run for his team that started pulling away from the opponent. They were the type of shots that just couldn’t be defended, and if you are the defender just tip your cap & move on. Then he makes a move from the top of the arch straight down the lane makes an incredible slam with a body hanging all over him for the three-point play. When I keep watching this player, I am more and more becoming impressed with his poise. He has a chance to be really good.
Yusef Grey | 6’4″ | W | 2026 | West Allis Central | Team Herro
Yusef turned in solid performances on the weekend. He was content doing his thing and letting his teammates do their thing as well. That can be a mark of a good prospect in that he can impact the game in other ways consistently throughout each contest. What impressed me the most was late in the contest against a tough Kaukauna club, when his team needed impact plays to seal the win, he came through with two very solid collegiate moves for buckets.
Andrew Jensen Andrew Jensen 6'9" | C Kaukauna | 2026 State WI | 6’9″ | PF | 2026 | Kaukauna | All Wisconsin
It was a good day for the prospect that was matched up against another 6’8″ player who was playing Andrew physically. He had confidence in approaching and getting his outside shot. He had several hard dunks in traffic that saw opponents’ scatter. I liked that he was able to draw fouls and convert and the line. Then late in the contest he might have had the dunk of the summer. Going very hard in transition, coming down the left side of the court he got the ball about two dribbles away from the rim and just went hard. I keep asking myself why did the defender jumped with a physical 6’9″ player, but he did, and Jensen just made a poster of the poor fella. It had everyone jumping and a few searching for an exit.
Notes:
Kaukauna’s Keegan Van Kauwenberg Keegan Van Kauwenberg 6'3" | CG Kaukauna | 2025 State WI looks to be another inch taller and had a pretty good day. He three ball shot never failed him and when he is on, he is a sniper.
Jasper Warren Warren WI 2025 out of Menomonee Falls had himself a shot. As time was expiring to end the game, his teammate yell ‘shoot the ball’. So of course he did, he just happened to be at the opposite free throw line and hits the bottom of the net on a 3/4 court shot. Amazing!
