Master courses Mathematical Sciences

The courses of Mathematical Sciences are organised by:

  • Mastermath: the national programme of mathematical master courses
  • The Mathematical Institute in Utrecht: local small-scale courses and seminars
  • The Stochastic and Financial Mathematics (SFM) programme
  • The Industrial and Applied Mathematics (IAM) programme

Courses 2023-2024

Below you will find information on the courses for the academic year 2023-2024,information about how to enrol for the courses and the timetables of the courses.

Find the Mastermath course offering, schedules and locations, and course descriptions including prerequisites on the website ofMastermath.

How to register for Mastermath courses

Register for Mastermath courses through the website ofMastermath. There you will also find information about travel reimbursem*nt. You should also register locally at the UU through Osiris Student for these courses during the UU registration periods. For the fall semester 2023, Osiris Student is open for registration between 30/5-23/6 and 21/8-18/9, for the spring semester 2024 between 30/10-24/11 and 22/1-19/2.

The local courses are listed in thisschedule.

More details about the prerequisites, course content and rooms will be published inthe CoursePlanneror go toMyTimetablefor times and rooms(published a few weeks before the semester starts).

Local courses and seminars might be cancelled if there are very few students interested in the course.

You should register for the courses through Osiris Student. For the fall semester 2023, Osiris Student is open for registration between 30/5-23/6 and 21/8-18/9, for the spring semester 2024 between 30/10-24/11 and 22/1-19/2.

The following courses at the UvA and VU are part of SFM and are not Mastermath courses:

* This course replaces Stochastic Optimization (53748SOP6Y). The courses cannot be both counted towards your degree.

The schedules of these courses will be published on the websites of the UvA and VU.

How to register for SFM courses

  • If the SFM course is also a Mastermath course, the registration is throughMastermath.
  • If the SFM course is also a local UU course, the registration is though Osiris Student.
  • For SFM courses that are neither Mastermath nor UU courses, you have to register at the university where the course is given as a guest/secondary subjectstudent (Dutch: bijvakstudent). This can be done online:UvAandVU. You may need a letter from the UU Department of Mathematics Board of Examiners, which you have to send to the university where the course is given. The following courses of the TU/e's Industrial and Applied Engineering master's programme are allowed in the UU Mathematical Sciences programme without permission of the Board of Examiners:

  • Applied cryptography (2DMI10)
  • Cryptographic protocols (2DMI00)
  • Graphs and algorithms (2MMD30)
  • Multilinear algebra and applications (2MMD20)
  • Random graphs (2MMS60)
  • Stochastic networks (2MMS40)

You have to register for these courses at TU/e as anelective student(Dutch: bijvakstudent). You may need a letter from the UU Department of Mathematics Board of Examiners. Here you can find afind aWord-documentwith a template of this letter.Please contactThijs Ruijgrokto get the letter signed.
