A total transformation of the Deer District is in full swing days before the Republican National Convention begins in Milwaukee. Tuesday morning, local companies were hard at work constructing stages, assembling signs and dropping off fencing. In the middle of all the action was Ashley HomeStore of Wisconsin executives building furniture. "Ashley HomeFurniture has donated four full semi-loads of sofas, love seats, outdoor furniture, end tables, desks, you name it," CEO Bill Fonti said. "So it's all used for the RNC, Secret Service and such."Fonti said his company donated more than 2,000 pieces of furniture to the RNC to be used both inside and outside the convention space. Once the convention is over, Fonti said all of the new furniture will then be donated to local non-profit organizations. "Any local organization that's in need of furniture ... we're here to donate it all," Fonti said.Fonti estimates the donation is worth roughly $350,000. The Wisconsin-based furniture store also furnished roughly 40 apartments in Milwaukee for RNC members who moved to the city to prepare for the convention. Fonti says that furniture will also be donated. Right now, the furniture store is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to donate some of the items, but Fonti said they're looking for more organizations to donate to.He is encouraging people to reach out to their local Ashley Furniture store with suggestions of local nonprofits in need of furniture.
